TOYS & KNITTED CAKES
The first Dolly here is the character from my picture books (see Illustration) who I made for fun, and to give me an idea of scale when drawing her doing various things.
The knitted cakes are my own patterns. They come in all kinds of flavours, with all kinds of fillings and have a crochet cherry or cream blob on the top. Cakes are available to order priced between £8 and £12 each - please go to the shop for available toys.
I started making the other dolls here in 1997 after a long spell of interest in puppetry and marionettes. I wanted to make a pattern that was curvaceous and more realistic than the usual square body. I began making Mermaids with removable tails, which enabled them to transform into land people with curvy little legs disguised inside the fabric tail. Little Red Riding Hood has a small basket of felt jam tarts, other characters have small instruments or bags. Over time I have added some animals. The dolls stand 16" tall. The rabbit and little dog are fully jointed.
